If permits are unavailable, don’t worry—mountain gorilla trekking is also possible in Bwindi (Uganda), Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda), or Virunga National Park (DR Congo). 3 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari
The drive from Entebbe to Mgahinga National Park takes about 8 hours. For those who prefer a shorter journey, Adventure Volunteers recommends taking a flight from Kajjansi or Entebbe to Kisoro Airstrip, with daily services organized by Aerolink. Alternatively, you can begin your safari from Kigali, Rwanda, which is about 4 hours by road.
When packing for gorilla trekking, bring sturdy hiking shoes suitable for thick forests, mud, and steep slopes. A rain jacket is essential, especially in the rainy season. If jungle sounds disturb you, pack earplugs. Insect repellent is highly recommended due to forest insects, and don’t forget to carry a packed lunch from your lodge for the day.
