Uganda’s Best Kept Safari Secret

After two weeks of volunteering in a rural Ugandan school, I needed a break—but I didn’t expect that a weekend trip could be so powerful.

Through Adventure Volunteers, I joined a 2-day safari to Lake Mburo National Park. It wasn’t just about seeing animals—it was a complete mental and emotional reset. The open landscape, the calm of the water, the quiet moments during game drives—it all gave me space to reflect on my experience in Uganda.

A Weekend Safari That Changed My Perspective

We saw hippos lounging in the lake, zebras in the morning light, and buffalo moving through the bush. I rode a horse for the first time ever—and next to wild animals, no less! But the best part? Sitting under the stars that night, hearing nothing but the sounds of nature and knowing that I had contributed something to this country, even in a small way.

Combining volunteering with travel created the perfect balance for me. I had time to give, and time to recharge. It reminded me that we don’t just travel to see—we travel to connect, to grow, and to feel.

If you’re thinking about volunteering in Uganda, make room for a bit of adventure. That weekend safari didn’t just change my routine—it changed my perspective.
